Success!

Hester's op yesterday went very well - the good news is that a new hip joint was able to be fixed which will speed up the road to recovery.  She should be back in her room later this morning.
All very encouraging,

The Bug Has Won... writes Hester

Very sadly,  Hester needs further surgery as the bug is not being chased out of her body as required. This is her update:

"Dear All, Hoping against hope probably, we now know that we cannot defeat the nasty septicaema with staphylococci bug.
The last few days I was again experiencing pain etc. Ultrascans yesterday which showed all was not well. The
artificial hipjoint has to come out.
Had a long talk with my surgeon, who explained what will be done. Depending on what they find ... temporary hipjoint,in case the infection has spread, or a permanent one. The latter would be wonderful, but I will not get too optimistic.
I hope I can persuade Paul not to send emails all over the world continuously, he was up till all hours last time I was in hospital and started again first thing in the morning!"

Let's hope Paul can get to use the Blog to keep everyone in the picture. The operation will be on Saturday. We are of course very hopeful that this latest operation will enable the bug to be well and truly dispatched. Hester is being very brave indeed and positive - as we all know she has the best spirit when most of us would be despairing.

Latest News

I have spent a couple of days in Norwich and am happy report that Hester is doing well and responding well to treatment. Still some way to go before she will be home, but things are encouraging.

Post operation update

Dear All,
Just to say Hester was back in her room around 5 pm and the joint has been cleaned again, the infection was pretty advanced. Hester says future treatment will depend greatly on the results of blood tests in next 3 days.

What Sad News

Dear All,

Hester has sadly had to be re-admitted to hospital as the infection in her hip has returned. As you can imagine we are all so disappointed, especially as her recovery was going so very well. She will be operated on tomorrow to have the joint cleaned, the same operation she had just a week before Christmas.  She is being amazingly brave and accepting of this and is just pleased to be in the care of Keith Tucker and the team who she got to know so well.  We will keep you informed of her progress here and will update this blog when we have more news; this will help keep the number of emails Daddy (Paul) writes rather lower! You can make comments but I think the blog format does not allow us to reply to people individually, so do email Paul directly if you need a personal response!

Here's keeping our fingers crossed, once again, that all will be well,

Bella
